Research Associate (Postdoc), Applied & Analytical Paleontology Mainz, Germany The Department of Paleontology, Institute of Geosciences at the University of Mainz (Germany) invites applications for a job opening at the Research Associate (Postdoc) level. The successful applicant will develop a strong research program that complements the existing expertise of the research group (www.paleontology.uni-mainz.de<http://www.paleontology.uni-mainz.de>) and strengthens cross-disciplinary research cooperations. The ability to attract external research funds and to publish results in internationally renowned peer-reviewed journals is prerequisite. Possible research fields may include, but are not limited to (1) reconstructions of paleoclimate, paleoenvironment or nutrition using biogenic hard parts, (2) biomineralization, (3) calibration and development of climate proxies. The ideal candidate should have experience with geochemical techniques (ICP-OES, CF-IRMS etc.), time-series analysis and statistical methods. Furthermore, the successful applicant will be teaching courses in German or English in paleoclimatology/paleoenvironments modules (e.g., paleontology, Earth history, sclerochronology etc.; lectures, labs, field trips; 4 hrs/week). Broadly trained applicants must hold a PhD, preferably in bio- or geosciences. Previous postdoctoral experience is advantageous. In addition to scientific independence, the ideal candidate should be able to demonstrate originality of research focus and excellence in communication skills (both written and spoken). Proficiency in written and spoken English is essential, and a basic understanding of German helpful. The initial appointment will be for three years (with possible extension for another three years). Salary according to E13 TV-L includes fringe benefits. The starting date is 1st October 2013.
